We're starting indoors with a handy little greenhouse kit from Walmart (very inexpensive). We can't plant outside until May 15, so we're hoping to get a headstart with some help from an indoor growing light (only 10 bucks). I'm excited for all these plants--I hope I get at least one survivor from each species!

Hi Carrie, I couldn't figure out how to reply to your comment on my blog so I'm commenting on yours! In response to your question, my experience was far from ideal at Fatima in terms of respecting my wishes and birth plan. The staff was nice and the room comfortable, but the actual birth was much less natural than I had wanted (and said I wanted). I have heard good things about NISA also through a friend who knows a nurse there, but most of the midwives here recommend going to the public hospital (Virgen del Rocio) if you're really interested in a natural birth. But availability of their special "activities" room depends on how many expectant mothers are on the list ahead of you, so there's no guarantee from what I've heard. I am thinking of trying either the public hospital or NISA next time (if and when). The only downside is the lack of privacy. I do know an American who gave birth here in her home with a doula. She recently moved back to the US, but I think she can probably give you some good pointers. Her name is Robyn Wallace Bowles, I would recommend connecting with her on Facebook if you have a page, and if you don't let me know and I will write to ask her permission to pass on the email address. You can also add me as a friend on Facebook so we can exchange messages, if you like: search for Deirdre Jerry in Sevilla. Also check out the AWC at www.awcseville.com if you haven't already, a good way to network with other expats in Seville!
